Presidential committee discusses ways to help the self-employed compete


The President’s Special Committee on Income-led
Growth held a policy debate this afternoon. It brought together experts, officials and
others. The key topic: how to improve the business
environment for the self-employed. The committee is led by the former senior
presidential secretary for the economy, Hong Jang-pyo. He said the forum’s objective was to find
policies that would help small businesses and the self-employed… become more competitive. The committee dubs this group, the key targets
of income-led growth policy. Participants discussed ways for local businesses
and SMEs to thrive,…. for franchises and mom-and-pop businesses to prosper together. They also touched on ways to reinforce the
social safety net. Hong pointed out, for the income-led growth
policy to succeed, it’s essential to increase these groups’ overall sales, and to ease the
burden of expenses on them. He pledged to find ways to help the self-employed
better sustain their business and remain competitive.
