October 2019 Disability Employment Awareness Month (part 7 of 7)

ADEC’s clients aren’t from birth disabled.
That is not the entire base of clients that they serve. They serve individuals — and it could happen to any one of us — we’re one injury away from a traumatic brain
injury, and some of the clients have had mortgages, entire families, and they may
not be the typical client that you envision initially when you hear “ADEC”. And so it’s great for the general public to kinda have that knowledge
as well, because it kind of brings out the empathy that we all really need. I
would just say, you know, for all employers — just go after it. There are so
many people that don’t know that there are individuals out there that can
come and work in your facilit. I think they think of ADEC as, “well, I’ll send work
to your place, and you can do it there.” No. There’s lots of opportunities as an
employer to give people the opportunity to learn to contribute, to produce, and
earn a good income. And there’s help, they will help you. ADEC will help you do
this. I would just encourage other businesses to give the ADEC people a
chance. They are so awesome and, you know, you’re making a difference to our
community, to our society, when you hire them. And I’m not gonna say that they’re
all gonna be perfect or they’re gonna fit, you know, your needs, but at least
you’re giving them a chance to prove that they can’t. So I would just just
encourage everybody to, you know — do it! Yeah!
