Minor Injuries Service – Know Who To Turn To

The minor injuries unit can treat less serious injuries such as people who may go over on their ankle, not sure if they have sprained it or
broken it, if they have had a fall and injured their wrist, shoulder or their arm, any wounds
that need closed with paper strips or stitches, we can request x-rays and we can make a diagnosis
from the x-ray. There is lots of things that we can see and deal with. We don’t deal with any illnesses, and that
might be a minor illness like a sore throat, headaches that people would generally go to
their GP with. We can’t deal with anyone who is experiencing chest pain, have abdominal
pain, have mental health problems, have problems with alcohol and drugs. The next course of action would be to assess
the patient and then determine where the best place for them to go to be treated. Now that
might be redirected back to their own GP, directed to accident and emergency or it might
be some advice to contact NHS 24. Minor Injuries Services are available at Queen
Margaret Hospital in the Minor Injuries Unit, at the Victoria Hospital within the Accident
& Emergency Department, at Adamson Hospital in Cupar and at St Andrews Community Hospital
